Sandy's Heart for Nicaragua - part 12

This fall I’ll be traveling to Nicaragua for my 12th trip with Amigos for Christ, an organization that has become a second family to me. Each year, we partner with local communities to bring what so many of us take for granted: clean, safe water.

In rural Nicaragua, families often spend hours each day walking for water—water that isn’t even safe to drink. With Amigos, I’ve seen firsthand how that changes when a village gets a clean water system. Kids get healthier. Parents spend less time worrying about survival and more time building their futures. Life expectancy, education, and opportunity all rise—just because of water.

I’m passionate about this work because I’ve witnessed the transformation with my own eyes. On my first trip, I helped dig trenches for pipelines and build a modern bathroom; on three of my trips, I hugged families celebrating their very first day of clean running water in their homes. Every time, I’m reminded that clean water isn’t just about survival—it’s about dignity, hope, and opportunity.
